You know the old saying, “No pain, no gain?” While we usually say that when it comes to dieting and exercising, the same saying can also be applied about getting a college education. While it is definitely not easy to get a college degree, it is surely worth it.

In the beginning, it is easy to be excited about classes and all the things you are learning. As time and semesters go on, school can become overwhelming and stressful. One important thing to remember when those frustrating times come is that it’s all worth it in the end. Keep going and don’t give up!

Try some of these strategies to keep you motivated when school is getting the best of you

Photo via Flickr by vrot01

Form Study Groups

Make friends in your classes and form study groups. This is a really easy way to get your studying done while still socializing. Plus, if you have a group of friends around who you are accountable to, it will be harder to miss those study sessions.

Set a Schedule

Much like a budget, you need to set a time schedule while in school. First, figure out when your classes are and put those times on your schedule. Next, schedule specific times during the day to study. Set aside an hour or two before class in the middle of the day to do your readings and write your papers. Knowing there is a specific time set aside will help you make the time for homework.

Have Fun

College is a time to learn and work hard, but it’s also important to have a little fun. Go out with friends for pizza once a week. Watch a movie with your roommates. Or simply play a video game for 30 minutes a day. You’ve made the time to study and get your homework complete, but also schedule some fun time in the mix too.

Exercise

College is one of the most stressful times of your life. When you are stressed, try exercising to relieve some of the tension. Walk to class instead of driving in the car. Run a mile or two around the neighborhood. Take an exercise class or explore other options to be fit.

Exercise will help keep your body and your mind healthy and sharp. You’ll be a better student when you’re less stressed.

Don’t Worry About the Money

In times of emergency situations, an installment loan can help you pay for unexpected expenses that you may encounter during your stay in college. You can avoid the pitfall of a one-time payment by availing an installment loan when you get into unexpected expenses such as medical emergencies.

The important thing to remember when it comes to college is to stick to it. College is necessary for your future career and success. Put in the time and energy now and you will certainly be rewarded for your hard work later on down the road.

When choosing a good medical school there are many things to consider. However, when it comes to which school is better or more prestigious, remember that all schools teach the same courses, they take the same tests and the result is state exams that are the same across the country.

Some of the things you should consider:

Location

Finance

Curriculum

Student Living

When considering the location of a medical school, local is the least expensive option. Living on campus or even off campus is expensive, as the student has living expenses on top of tuition and books.

Financial Help is out There

How much can the student afford? There are student loans and grants that afford most people their college education. It’s a rare student who goes through four years of university without the help of family or financial institutions.

Almost any education can be funded one way or another. Community colleges are often a little cheaper than universities though for some careers it takes longer than at other colleges. Careers in nursing and other medical fields narrow your choices down to medical schools. What about the career choice – is it research heavy? The school should have adequate labs and libraries. Consider the requirements the career study will have and choose the college with the most beneficial programs or assets.

Think of the student’s habits and where they’ll stay for the school year. Is there student housing? Is there a gym or a health clinic nearby? Are there movie theaters, malls, parks or pools in the area? Is there ample parking, or secure bicycle parking?

Take time to check out the schools. The Internet has a plethora of information to research potential schools.

Believe it or not, many pharmaceutical companies offer free medications to patients in need. Although each company will have their own list of requirements, this generally means that the patient must have little to no income and absolutely no drug coverage. Most of the time, they require the patient’s doctor to complete a form to refer the patient to the program, but, once approved, the patient receives their critical medications each month at absolutely no cost.

Some pharmaceutical companies mail the medications directly to the patient while others distribute their products through the doctor’s office. If the medications are considered controlled substances, like pain killers and some psychiatric drugs, they are more likely to move through a pharmacy or doctor’s office before reaching the patient for security reasons.

If you’ve ever wondered why you pay such a high price for some new prescription drugs, this is part of the reason. Although a lot of the price consists of the research costs, advertising expenses, and a healthy profit for the drug-maker, a percentage of each paid prescription sometimes supports this free-drug program.

Many people who are insured through Medicare also use this program. Although it’s harder to get approved when you have some form of insurance, people in the “doughnut hole,” where they have to pay full price for prescriptions, can sometimes find assistance for critical medications. If you, or someone you care about, is having a hard time paying for life-saving drugs, speak to your doctor about one of these programs.

If you are passionate about the healthcare industry and want to go to medical school or nursing school to pursue a career, one of the first decisions you’ll need to make is which school to attend. There are many medical and nursing schools around the globe, some of which have traditional campus settings and others which are online schools.

Top 4 Medical Schools Online

If you want to take some of your medical school coursework online, here are four medical schools worth considering. Many of these also offer highly ranked RN to BSN programs and similar programs that are worth your consideration:

Johns Hopkins University, located in Baltimore, Md.

Washington University, located in Saint Louis, Mo.

Stanford University, located in Stanford, Calif.

Baylor College of Medicine, located in Houston.

Whether you are considering nursing school or medical school, it’s important to know the requirements so that you can decide whether you have the grades to be considered for that institution. Competition for medical and nursing schools can be fierce.

Make sure you consider the best medical schools around the country when you are trying to decide which medical educational institution is going to meet your needs in the best possible way. Choosing the right medical school can have a profoundly positive impact on your ability to turn your love for medicine into a real career.

These are just four of the highest ranking medical schools that you should consider, but there are many other options for you to consider as well. Make sure that you put some time and effort into researching your options for the best possible results.

Although most people consider prescription drugs to be fairly safe, these substances have quickly become the biggest source of addiction in America, especially among young adults and teenagers. Sometimes, this starts off as innocent experimentation as teenagers steal drugs from their parent’s medicine cabinet and share with friends. Other times, a patient may become addicted after receiving a prescription for a legitimate medical issue. Before they know it, they need more and more of the drug just to feel normal each day.

Believe it or not, drugs like Oxycontin are just as addictive, if not more so, as heroin – and just as hard to quit. In fact, if you become addicted to pain killers, your rehab program may be very much like the one provided for any street junkie. Considering that these drugs are derived from the same poppies that are used for heroin, this shouldn’t be too surprising. In fact, New Zealand, the largest producer of narcotic pain relievers, is literally filled with commercial poppy fields.

If you, or someone you love, are having a problem with controlling your use of prescription medications, it’s time to talk to your doctor and get help. This is a world-wide epidemic and nothing to be embarrassed about. In fact, doctors, lawyers, and other high-profile professionals and celebrities have admitted they had a problem and asked for help. You can do the same. This very request for help is what started the illustrious Betty Ford Center; the popular first lady was once addicted to both alcohol and prescription pain medication.

Although most patients are happy to see any new medical technology that provides even a glimmer of hope, both doctors and their charges are skeptical about the new electronic medical record trend. The US Government, on the other hand, thinks it’s a wonderful idea. So great, in fact, that they have designated funds to repay doctor’s offices over $60,000 each for installing these systems.

Most people are concerned about their level of privacy once their most personal information is translated into an electronic format and eliminated from that familiar and comfortable paper folder. They think about how many different types of companies have access to their credit report and wonder if this will be similar. The basic argument is not that someone will steal their medical identity, but that insurance companies or employers will review this information before providing an offer. If they’re sick, these people think it could mean that they can’t even get a job as employers try to keep health insurance expenses low.

Of course, electronic medical records also have their upsides. Once this new technology is fully implemented, a person who has been rushed to an emergency room while on vacation across the country can allow doctors to immediately access their full medical history. This could prevent a lot of unnecessary paperwork and allow doctors who don’t know the patient to know if any drugs or treatments would be ill-advised for this particular patient. In short, these scary electronic medical records could actually end up saving lives.
